NEWTON Media plays significant role in regional media monitoring for European Commission

“NEWTON Media’s media monitoring reports are a very valuable product which we use in our everyday work. They make our work easier, more productive and definitely provide good added value.”

Michaela Jelínková, spokesperson of the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic

In 2011, NEWTON Media was assigned by one of a partner member of  FIBEP (Federation Internationale des Bureaux d’Extraits de Presse) to form part of a complex media monitoring project for the European Commission.

After successfully winning the tender, NEWTON Media became subcontractors to the initiative and responsible for monitoring relevant media output for the Commission in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia and Slovenia.

Quality insight and evaluation

For the past four years NEWTON Media’s editorial team have provided two daily reports to the European Commission.

The ‘Daily Press Review’ examines and summarises the top media items of the day in the region, while the ‘Daily News Summary’ presents overviews of coverage related to specific topics and issues.

Together, these reports enable the Commission to quickly get a balanced understanding of the tone and sentiment of a particular story or topic in the Central and Eastern European region.

At the request of the European Commission, the reports are designed not to summarise the vast amount of daily media coverage relating to the Commission, but rather to present an accurate reflection of the key discussion points and themes driving the news agenda.

NEWTON Media oversees 48 topics and policies covered for the European Commission, including:

  • Institutional, budget and administration affairs
  • External affairs (trade, EU foreign affairs, enlargement negotiations)
  • Justice, freedom and security matters
  • Economic and financial affairs (taxation and internal markets)
  • Structural policies (regional policy, energy and agriculture)
  • Employment and social affairs
  • Food safety and education

NEWTON Media’s multilingual editorial team analyses the critical commentaries, interviews and editorials that will shape the European conversation and presents English language summaries, having translated the texts from Czech, Slovak, Slovenian, Croatian and Hungarian.

Our editorial team files its reports by 6:00am CET every working day. In addition to the reports, NEWTON Media supplies customer service for the client from 4:00am.
